7 Schools Sing 2024
A combined mass choir concert took place at the Waihī College Hall on June 26, organised by the Waihī Kāhui Ako – a cluster of schools in the area who work together to achieve educational outcomes for their students.
Seven Schools Sing was an initiative that showcased students, between years five and eight, who performed for their families, friends and community.
Led by musical director Roshan Tuivavalagi, with the support of Waihī College music teacher Mr Randall and Waihi Kāhui Ako Across School Lead Teacher Mrs Dorette Hartley. Kids from the following schools took part in the event: Waihī Central School, Waihī East School, Waihī Beach School, Waihī College, St Joseph’s Waihī, Waimata School and Te Wharekura o Te Waitangi o Ohinemuri.
The evening also included special guest artists from around the region.
A big focus for the Waihī Kāhui Ako was children’s wellbeing and giving them an opportunity to do things they love.“We noticed how much the kids loved singing and music so we looked at how could we offer that experience to kids in a collective way.”
